HARRISBURG (July 22, 2015): This week Capital Region Water began inspecting sewer manholes and outfalls of the combined sewer system in Harrisburg. Inspections of the 3,500 structures will be performed by Hydrostructures, P.A. and will conclude by the end of the year.

How will this affect the public?

Hydrostructures will use camera technology to assess the condition of the structures and will have vehicles on the road near manholes and outfalls during the inspection. No road closures are expected and temporary traffic control devices will be used to maintain roadway safety.

Why is this needed?

This inspection will allow Capital Region Water to assess the condition of its manholes, the sewer mains connected to the manholes, and its CSO outfalls to identify needed repairs and prevent failures. These inspections will also help to map the sewer mains as part of Capital Region Water’s ongoing GIS Development Project and City Beautiful H2O campaign. The GIS Development Project began in 2011 to locate, map, and assess Capital Region Water’s underground assets. City Beautiful H2O is Capital Region Water’s community based campaign to improve the health of local waterways by reducing combined sewer overflows and stormwater pollution.
