The City of Harrisburg’s new Demolition Team on Thursday will demolish houses in the 1700 block of Regina Street in its project to tackle neighborhood blight.
The 3-person demolition team began the project last week, taking down two houses at 1415 and 1416 Swatara St. Ten properties in Allison Hill and Uptown were identified for demolition over the next few months.
“Our investment in Neighborhood Services is starting to pay off,” said Mayor Eric Papenfuse. “With the infusion of new hires, we now have the capacity we need to start taking down blighted and unsafe buildings.”
In the 2016 budget that Mayor Papenfuse proposed, the City Council approved hiring additional personnel to Neighborhood Services, including creating a specific team for demolitions.
Initial properties slated for demolition include:
- 1727 Regina St.
- 1729 Regina St.
- 1731 Regina St.
- 1717 Regina St.
- 1921 Logan St.
- 1923 Logan
- 2620 N. 6th
- 2622 N. 6th
