Panel Discussion, Exhibit and Book Signing

March 23, 2019 – 1:00pm

The Historical Society of Dauphin County will host a panel discussion, exhibit, and book signing commemorating the 40th Anniversary of the nuclear accident at Three Mile Island. The event will take place on March 23 at 1:oopm in the John Harris-Simon Cameron Mansion at 219 South Front Street, Harrisburg.

Highlighting the event will be a panel discussion, coordinated by Three Mile Island Alert, focusing on the events that unfolded at the state capitol in the days following the nuclear accident on March 28, 1979.

The event will also feature the opening of an exhibit jointly curated by HSDC and TMI Alert. The exhibit will feature photographs from HSDC’s Allied Pix Collection, samples of mutated plants from the Mary Stamos Collection (this collection is then headed to the Smithsonian Institution’s Natural History Museum’s Department of Botany), and various Three Mile Island ephemera including publications, buttons, posters, t-shirts, and other mementos.

The event will also coincide with the release of “Three Mile Island,” authored by HSDC president Erik V. Fasick and published by Arcadia Publishing. The book features over 200 images sourced from the Allied Pix Collection, which focus on the nuclear accident, along with the protests and clean-up efforts that followed. A limited signed and numbered edition of 250 copies of the book, available exclusively through HSDC, will be available for purchase.
