For the 6th year in a row, Clean & Green Harrisburg is coordinating the Great Harrisburg Litter CleanUp (GHLC) for Saturday April 21st from 9:00am-1:00pm.
This citywide community effort aims to pick up litter from the city’s streets, alleyways, and public spaces. It’s important to note this is not a City bulk clean up initiative. No construction or demolition material will be accepted during the CleanUp. No illegal dump sites will be addressed. This event is to pick up litter.
Special arrangements have been made for tire collection and recycling. Made up of a team of neighborhood groups, volunteer organizations, community members, and regional representatives, the Clean & Green GHLC committee is asking the public to:
• Register to volunteer to help pick up litter on April 21st
• Report illegal dump sites to the city & county
• Spread the word about this event
• Sign up for a Stop the Drop trash can lid (Harrisburg residents) @ stopthedrophbg.com
Currently 38 clean ups are registered throughout the city based on public input and participation. Presenting sponsors for the event are LCSWMA and Dauphin County/Dauphin County Conservation District as well as significant partnerships with Covanta, UPMC Pinnacle and several local businesses that heeded the call for sponsorship.
“GHLC provides an opportunity for Harrisburg residents and volunteers from the Capital Region to come together and create a more beautiful city for everyone” says Julie Walter, point person for the GHLC. “In just a few hours, volunteers will truly be able to see what can be accomplished when we all come together.”
The GHLC is part of the Great American Cleanup and Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful’s “Pick It Up PA Days”.
