Central PA GIS Day will be celebrating its tenth year on Wednesday, November 14 from 9am -5pm at HACC Midtown Campus at 1500 N. 3rd Street in Harrisburg, PA 17102.

GIS Day provides an international forum for users of geographic information systems (GIS) technology to demonstrate real-world applications that are making a difference in our society. The first formal GIS Day took place in 1999. Esri president and co-founder Jack Dangermond credits Ralph Nader with being the person who inspired the creation of GIS Day. He considered GIS Day a good initiative for people to learn about geography and the uses of GIS. He wanted GIS Day to be a grassroots effort and open to everyone to participate.

The Central PA GIS Day partnership began in 2009 when the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania approached Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC) about partnering on a GIS Day event. Since then the partnership has grown to include Esri, PASDA, The Nature Conservancy (TNC), and others. This year will feature keynote speaker Chris Cappelli from Esri, lunchtime roundtables and a StoryMap/Open Data Portal Show and Tell. We will also be having concurrent sessions, lightning talks, an exhibit hall, and a few more fun surprises! Check out this StoryMap to get full details and to see how you can participate in this free event!
