Title: Death in the Valley: 1918 Flu Epidemic in Upper Dauphin County
Description: Local historian Jake Wynn will detail the responses in Upper Dauphin County to the outbreak of Spanish Influenza during October 1918. As World War I raged in Europe and local young men served in the armed forces, families on the home front confronted unspeakable horrors as the disease spread rapidly across the region, killing hundreds across each of the towns and villages.
Jake Wynn is currently the Program Coordinator at the National Museum of Civil War Medicine in Frederick, Maryland. He writes independently about culture and history in Central Pennsylvania on his Wynning History blog (wynninghistory.com).
A tour of the mansion at 1:00 p.m. is offered for $5 per person. The presentation only is by donation. Historical Society members are free
Price: $5.00 tour for non-members, lecture by donation
