HARRISBURG – Mayor Eric Papenfuse will join Harrisburg fire fighters for a press conference at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Fire Station No. 2 located at 16th and State Street in Harrisburg to announce the “Fill the Boot” campaign to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Harrisburg fire fighters are among 280,000 members of the International Association of Fire Fighters who are cooperating in the fundraising effort to help people with Muscular Dystrophy. According to the IAFF, it is the largest national sponsor of the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
The contributions of the fire fighters support MDA’s summer camps for children, professional and public health education, and other programs. IAFF members have donated nearly $275 million to MDA since 1954. The IAFF raised millions of dollars throughout the entire year through the “Fill the Boot” campaigns, in which fire fighters greet motorists, shoppers and others and ask them to donate money to MDA.
