HARRISBURG – In an effort to deter the illegal use of fireworks within City limits, a carefully monitored community event will be held on July 3rd at four designated locations. Fire Department officials will be at each site to ensure safety and provide instruction on responsible usage of fireworks. Members of the public that desire to use fireworks are encouraged to only use them at one of the July 3rd sites during the designated date/time. It is illegal to set off fireworks in most of the City, and so this event allows for those interested to use them safely and responsibly.
The designated locations on July 3rd from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. are Sunshine Park, 7th & Radnor Playground, Reservoir park by the basketball courts, and S. 14th Street Open Space.
There have been complaints of fireworks being set off in neighborhoods throughout the City. The public can report incidents by contacting the City communications team at 3-1-1 or 717-255-6571, or submitting their report online at harrisburgpa.gov/fireworks. Reports of fireworks activity will be mapped via GIS technology to determine patterns, educational outreach, and enforcement strategies. Please do not call the police directly unless the incident is life-threatening.
This initiative is in partnership with the Young Professionals of Color and All You Can, Inc.
