Harrisburg Youth to Speak at “My Brother’s Keeper” Forum – 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Bethany A.M.E. Church
Youth from the Harrisburg School District will participate in a “My Brother’s Keeper” forum from 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. Thursday, January 29 , 2015 at Bethany A.M.E. Church, 912 South 21st St., Harrisburg.
Students in grades 7-12 will lead a discussion on the theme of “Growing up with 21st Century Community Engagement, Education and Public Safety Policies.”
“This is a great opportunity to hear from young people about their concerns and to get their ideas on how to better support them in schools and in the community,” said Mayor Eric Papenfuse, who is strongly supporting the “My Brother’s Keeper” initiative led by Senior Advisor Karl Singleton.
President Barack Obama launched the MBK program last year to galvanize community groups around the country to address issues impacting boys and men of color. Two forums have been held so far, including a recent panel discussion on public safety and community engagement.
