    HPS and Harrisburg DID Unveil SoMa Security and Safety Sub-Station (S-5) at 17 South Third Street

    HARRISBURG, PA–Today, Harrisburg Property Services (HPS) and Harrisburg Downtown Improvement District (HDID) announced a new safety and security sub-station that was recently opened in the heart of the South of Market (SoMa) district of downtown Harrisburg at 17 South Third Street (corner of Blackberry and South Third Street). HPS is an affiliate of Harristown Enterprises, Inc. that provides security services along with maintenance, construction, custodial, and property management services (in partnership with HBG Realty).

    The new “S-5” Sub-station will serve as a monitoring, safety and security concierge location which is manned 5 days per week (Tuesday through Saturday) from 5pm to 11pm. HPS officers working out of this sub-station will provide patrols across the HDID District working closely with other uniformed officers from Harrisburg Police Department, Capitol Police, and other fire and emergency response personnel in the downtown. Customers are encouraged to stop in and visit with the HPS officers.

    “This is a great way for us to continue to accomplish our mission which is all about making the downtown clean, safe, and beautiful,” said Todd Vander Woude, Executive Director, HDID. “Partnering with HPS on security services in the downtown continues to be a strategic alliance for the HDID,” he added.

    “We are thrilled to be partnering with the HDID to provide more evening services to the growing number of new tenants and residents in the downtown,” noted Brad Jones, President and CEO of Harristown. We completed over $33 Million in new improvements in downtown over the last two years. The S-5 Sub-Station is another great way for us to assist and interact with all the new tenants, residents, and customers in the downtown,” he added.

    During fall of 2016 Harristown and affiliates completed over 50 new upscale apartments at three new complexes including “Flats at Strawberry Square” (22 apartments), SoMa on Third Street (14 units), and Fifteen at 22 South Third or F@TT (15 units). Over 80 percent of these units are already leased bringing new residents to the downtown. In addition, many retailers and service tenants were brought to Strawberry Square in 2015 and 2016 including Best Friends Daycare, Verizon Wireless, Strawberry Gifts (Hallmark), Little Amps Coffee Roasters, Amma Jo (fashion boutique), and many new office tenants including the Department of Human Services (900 new employees) in the Commonwealth Tower, Sellers Dorsey, and RGS Associates.

    Coming soon to Strawberry Square is Fresa Bistro on Third (new restaurant with over 50 seats), and a new 14,000 s.f. Rite-Aid store both of which are scheduled to open in Spring of 2017.
