Harrisburg, PA – The City of Harrisburg will produce a July 4th Food Truck takeout and fireworks celebration on Saturday, July 4, 2020 from 12 p.m. – 9 p.m. on City Island. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we unfortunately cannot hold our typical Independence Day Celebration along Riverfront Park, but will be offering a safe celebration on City Island.
“I’m very excited for this year’s event” said Mayor Papenfuse. “We look forward to celebrating Independence Day in a safe way. I would like to give a special thanks to our Title Sponsor, Visit Hershey & Harrisburg for their help in making this event possible.” Attendees will be able to enjoy some of their favorite festival food and activities safely. The food truck takeout experience will allow participants to order and receive food while practicing social distancing. Food trucks will be spaced 30 feet apart and have ample space for line formation, including marks 6 feet apart to ensure attendees practice social distancing while waiting in line. Social distancing encouragers will be on-site to ensure social distancing is practiced. Face masks are strongly encouraged for the respect and health safety of those around you. Attendees may take their food home or spread out along the park with chairs and blankets from home. No seating will be provided. A hand washing station will be available at the food truck exit along with sinks placed throughout Riverfront Park.
Online performances from local bands and virtual kid’s activities will also be available. City Island activities such as water golf and the City Island railroad will be open. “Saturday Nights in the City” featuring expanded outdoor dining options at numerous City restaurants will also continue from 5-10 pm.
Fireworks will be held at 9:15 pm and can be viewed from miles of space along both the East and West Shore. Social distancing practices should be followed while enjoying the fireworks. Live stream fireworks will also be available on Facebook and Channel 20.
The Market Square Garage will offer $10 discounted special event parking, City Island parking will be $5 and street parking is free.
Special thanks to our sponsors, including Visit Hershey & Harrisburg, , Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency, Capital BlueCross, Mid Penn Bank, UPMC Pinnacle, Harrisburg Downtown Improvement District, M&T Bank and SP+.
We look forward to returning to Riverfront Park for the traditional July 4th Festival in 2021.
