MAYOR PAPENFUSE TO ANNOUNCE HOLIDAY TRASH COLLECTION SCHEDULE AND CHANGES TO STREET SWEEPING AT TUESDAY PRESS CONFERENCE
Dec. 19, 2016 Harrisburg, PA – Mayor Eric Papenfuse and Public Works Director Aaron Johnson will announce the holiday trash collection schedule and changes to street sweeping services at a holiday press conference slated for 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2016 in the atrium of the MLK Government Center, 10 N. Second St.
The Mayor also will announce information on holiday celebrations throughout Harrisburg, as well as information on parking.
Since both Christmas and New Year Day are on Sundays this year, trash collection will resume the following Tuesdays – Dec. 27 and Jan. 3, 2017.
Christmas trees (natural wood trees) will be collected starting Tuesday, Jan. 3 through Friday, Jan. 27.
Trees should be put near the curb but not in the street. All decorations must be removed. Glass balls, lights and tinsel will not turn into compost and must be removed from trees set out for collection.
Trees should not be put in any sort of bag.
Beginning Jan. 2, 2017, Capitol Region Water (CRW) will be responsible for sweeping Harrisburg’s streets twice a month. The normal street cleaning schedule will be followed
The City of Harrisburg will be responsible for leaf and yard waste removal, snow removal, and for large debris removal.
The street sweeping/cleaning schedule will remain the same on all Harrisburg Streets
Twice-a-month parking restrictions for street sweeping are in effect all year long.
