Mayor Papenfuse to Attend Showing of Acclaimed “Rosenwald” documentary on Thursday

Mayor Papenfuse will attend the showing of the documentary “Rosenwald” sponsored by thee Harrisburg Jewish Film Festival and the Mayor’s Interfaith Advisory Council at the Jewish Community Center, 3301 N. Front St., at 7 p.m. March 31, 2016.

“I thank the faith leaders of my Interfaith Advisory Council and the Harrisburg Jewish Film Festival for working together to sponsor the showing of this important documentary,” said Mayor Papenfuse. “Julius Rosenwald was a great humanitarian and philanthropist who did so much to help African Americans in the South.”

Filmmaker Aviva Kempner will be special guest of the documentary’s airing, and is traveling from Washington, D.C., to participate in the event.

Rosenwald was a businessman who lived in the early 1900s and used his wealth to build more than 5,000 schools to help African Americans in the South, where millions were denied equal access to education under “separate but equal” policies.
