HARRISBURG – Mayor Papenfuse will join artists, partners, and other project stakeholders in a special announcement on the city’s challenge grant. The grant was matched by The Foundation for Enhancing Communities (TFEC), and will be used towards the development and installation of a historic monument on the Capitol Grounds.

When: Tuesday, February 18 at 11:00 a.m.

The monument honors the Old 8th Ward, a densely populated area that was demolished for the expansion of the Capitol Grounds. Upcoming key dates regarding this project include March 25th for the groundbreaking near the State Capitol, and June 15th for the Unveiling and Dedication Ceremony. 

A component of the monument can be seen in the atrium of the MLK Government Center through the month of February in honor of Black History Month.
