The parade is organized by the Capital Region Association of Irish and Celts (CRAIC). It was started in the 1990s when a group of volunteers organized a parade to promote the heritage and culture of the local Irish community.
Mayor Papenfuse will be on the dais at North 2nd and Locust Streets to serve as MC from 2-3 p.m.
From its starting point, the parade will proceed south on Walnut to 2nd Street and then onto North Street. It will end at North Street and Commonwealth Avenue. The parade’s staging area is located on the Capitol Complex grounds behind the Pennsylvania State Capitol Building.
Vehicular access to the Capitol Complex will be restricted on Saturday to only those vehicles that will appear in the parade and vehicles transporting horses.
The Market Square garage will open at 10 a.m. An attendant will be on duty from 10a.m.-3 p.m. Parkers will pay the $10 event fee when they enter the garage and must exit by 10 p.m.
CRAIC is an all-volunteer organization that offers scholarships to deserving area students; supports other local charitable organizations; and celebrates diversity within the community.
