MAYOR PAPENFUSE TO PARTICIPATE IN 500 MEN READING WEEK IN HARRISBURG SCHOOLS

Harrisburg, PA – Mayor Eric Papenfuse will participate in opening ceremonies for the 500 Men Reading Week and Career Exploration sponsored by the American Literacy Corp. at  8 a.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2016, at Camp Curtin Elementary School, 2900 N. 6th St., Harrisburg.

Following opening ceremonies, the Mayor will go to John Harris High School to participate in two 40-minute career exploration sessions, beginning at 9:30 a.m.

“I applaud the American Literacy Corp. for actively promoting reading and for organizing such opportunities for youth throughout Central Pennsylvania to interact with responsible, successful men,” said Mayor Eric Papenfuse.  “I am especially proud that we have such enthusiastic participation of so many men in our City.”

Ron Claiborne of ABC Good Morning America and Michael Young of PinnacleHealth are serving as chairmen of this year’s 500 Men Reading Week and Career Exploration and also will participate in opening ceremonies at Camp Curtin school.

The program is held Feb. 29 thru March 5 in school districts and libraries in central PA.  The purpose of the 500 Men Reading Week and Career Exploration is to provide an opportunity for men to read to elementary students and discuss career paths with middle and high school students.
