MAYOR PAPENFUSE TO SWEAR IN NEW FIREFIGHTERS IN CEREMONIES ON TUESDAY

May 26, 2017 Harrisburg, PA — Mayor Eric Papenfuse will swear in 11 new fire recruits during ceremonies at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Fire Station No. 2, 140 N 16th St. The new recruits, which includes a female firefighter, will bring to 82 the number of firefighters in the Harrisburg Fire Department.
“I congratulate the recruits as they join Chief Brian Enterline and our great team of firefighters,” said Mayor Papenfuse. “I look forward to welcoming them into service for the City.”
The recruits have spent the last 12 weeks at Harrisburg Area Community College earning Emergency Management Team (EMT), Firefighter I, and Firefighter II certifications.  They also have spent the last several weeks training in advanced rescue skills such as trench rescue, confined space rescue and water rescue emergency response.
“This is a significant investment in personnel from early 2014 when there were just 59 Fire Bureau employees,” said Fire Chief Brian Enterline.  “The cadre of new firefighters includes our first female firefighter since 2014, an impressive list of military veterans and a life-long City resident.”
