    Messiah College Students Head “Into the Streets” Friday in Service to City of Harrisburg

    HARRISBURG – Messiah College students will participate in volunteer service to the City of Harrisburg from 1-5 p.m. Friday as part of their “Into the Streets” freshman orientation.

    More than 100 Messiah students will assist with preparations for the Kipona festival on City Island and more than 100 others will do clean-up and other service projects in Harrisburg neighborhoods.

    “We thank the students of Messiah for their willingness to learn about the City of Harrisburg and its historic neighborhoods,” said Mayor Eric Papenfuse.  “It will be hours well spent in service to the city.”

    According to Chad Frey, director of Messiah College’s Agape Center, students are excited about the opportunity to learn about the capital city.  Students will be engaged in activities on City Island, as well as at the following locations, where they will be greeted by neighborhood residents:

    • 14th & Shoop Sts.
    • 4th & Dauphin Sts.
    • 7th & Radnor, Gorkas Playground:
    • Italian Lake
    • Penn & Dauphin Sts.
    • Reservoir Park
    • Vernon Street Playground
