HARRISBURG –“Lara Vracarich and Friends” will bring world dance and music to the MLK Government Center’s Atrium at noon today in celebration of the upcoming Kipona – Sparkling Waters Festival on Labor Day weekend.
The dance event is part of the city’s Brown Bag cultural series sponsored by the Arts, Culture and Tourism Department. It will offer a sampling of foods, music and culture from around the world as a prelude to the “SOUL TO SOLE” DANCE FESTIVAL that will be held Aug 31-Sept 1 during Kipona at the City Island Riverview Pavilion and Stage.
Vracarich, an acclaimed dancer, is passionate about sharing the joy of expressive and multicultural dance and rhythm with people of all ages. She has performed multicultural dance at the World Peace Festival, The Community Education ETC.
Vracarich has performed Flamenco with Flamenco Aqui y Ahora and Mojo Flamenco of Harrisburg and Tres Compadres of Philadelphia, and West African Dance with Ballet Benkadi of Colorado (originating in Mali), NAYO African Drum Ensemble of Harrisburg, Bumbada Women’s drummers, Ubaka Hill and others.
The Brown Bag series is designed to bring a diverse speakers and performers to enlighten, educate and entertain city residents on the first and third Friday of each month. The series is free of charge.
