ADDITIONAL NEW HOTEL BEGINS CONSTRUCTION IN CITY

 

Mayor Stephen R. Reed today conducted the ground-breaking ceremony for the new $11 million Staybridge Suites hotel to be located at 2601 Industrial Road in Harrisburg. The anticipated completion date for the project is March 2009.

Reed said that the 125-unit, 5-story Staybridge Suites hotel will be a 4-star, extended-stay resort. The hotel will be a franchise operation owned by Harrisburg Investors Group, LLC, whose principal investor and owner is Navit (Brian) B. Zaver. Zaver owns and operates several other hotels in the Harrisburg area market, including the Super 8 Motel on Allentown Blvd. in West Hanover Twp.

The General Contractor for the project is DD & B Construction of Gaithersburg, MD. Subcontractors include McElroy Excavating, Midlantic Piling, Inc., and Conewago Enterprises, Inc., all of which are locally-based. Financing for the project was provided by Community Banks, Inc.

Staybridge Suites is part of the InterContinental Hotels Group, which includes such notable hotels as InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts, Hotel Indigo, Holiday Inn Hotels & Resorts, Holiday Inn Express, Staybridge Suites, and Candlewood Suites.

“The Staybridge Suites brand is unique to this area, as the next closest Staybridge is located in Allentown, PA,” said Mayor Reed. “The Staybridge Suites hotel will measurably add to the growing hospitality and lodging base of this city. It will bring more tourists and visitors. It will provide construction jobs and a positive spin-off benefit to the local economy for years to come after it opens.”

“It is strategically located in the midst of the Farm Show Complex, the main Wildwood Campus of Harrisburg Area Community College, the Ted Lick Conference Center, the Department of Agriculture state headquarters, the Lucknow Industrial Corridor, and is just off Interstate 81, with equally easy access to Interstate 83. We have needed a hotel in this part of the city and that vision shall now be realized,” Reed said.
