The City’s 2015 Kipona Festival will be held Sept. 5-7 in Riverfront Park and on City Island featuring live music, the Native American Pow Wow, food and art vendors, canoe races, fireworks and activities for children.
“We will have food and live music all three days on Riverfront Park,” said Mayor Eric Papenfuse, “and we’re not forgetting about the children. There will face painting, balloons, caricaturists and even the Cobblestone Players to make this a true family festival.”
Kipona will be held from noon to 9pm on Saturday and Sunday, and from noon to 6 p.m. on Monday. City Island will be the scene of the Karate Tournaments on Saturday, Sept. 5, the fireworks show on Sunday, Sept. 6, and the Native American Pow Wow, which will be held all three days. The Senators also will play games all three days on City Island.
Riverfront Park will host the live music stage, kid’s festival, food and art vendors, as well as the Festival of India and canoe races on Monday, Sept. 7.
“We especially want to thank our sponsors who are supporting the City’s 2015 Kipona Festival,” said Papenfuse. Silver Sponsors include: the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency and Highmark. Bronze Sponsors include Belco and Pinnacle Health. Community Sponsors include MidPenn Bank, PSECU, the Downtown Improvement District, Capital Region Water, Comcast and iHeartMedia.
Street parking will be free on Sunday and on the Monday holiday, and drivers can use the PANGO phone app to get four hours of free parking on Saturday, simply by entering the code “LUVHBG” into the app. (Attached is a flier explaining how to use the LUVHBG code.)
