Mayor Eric Papenfuse will provide opening remarks at an interfaith commemoration of the tragedy of Sept. 11, 2001 at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, 2015 at Goodwin Memorial Baptist Church, 2447 Green St.
“No Compulsion in Religion” is the theme of the commemoration that is sponsored by the Mayor’s Interfaith Advisory Council, the Interfaith Alliance and the Religion and Society Center.
Qasim Rashid, internationally acclaimed author, will serve as keynote speaker.
Rashid also is an attorney and national spokesperson for Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, USA. His latest book is “#TalkToMe: Changing the Narrative on Race, Religion, & Education,” a non-fiction memoir from inspiring thought leaders on how the power of dialogue can overcome racism, xenophobia, intolerance, and violence.
Following the interfaith service, there will be refreshments provided by the Turkish Cultural Center of Central Pennsylvania and a panel discussion with Rashid and several faith leaders, including:

RABBI RON MUROFF has served as the rabbi of Chisuk Emuna Congregation in Harrisburg, PA as a warm and welcoming Jewish resource, teacher, guide and community builder.
PAUL FULLMER is the Chaplain and Director of Service and Volunteerism at Lebanon Valley College in Annville, PA
