HARRISBURG – The Harrisburg Bureau of Fire deployed buoys in the area of the Dock Street Dam on April 4, 2019.

The Buoys are placed annually to create an exclusion zone around the dam. This year’s placement occurred nearly a month ahead of schedule.

To increase safety measures, flashing LED lights were added to the buoys this year. Buoys were also placed on the downstream side of the dam for additional safety and visibility. These downstream buoys complement the existing signage that have been in place on the Interstate 83 bridge, warning boaters of the dam ahead.

“I want to thank the Harrisburg Fire Bureau for ordering and skillfully deploying the new buoys.” Said Mayor Eric Papenfuse.  “We hope everyone enjoys the Susquehanna safely this summer.”

It is encouraged that all boaters, fishermen, and others who recreate on any body of water should familiarize themselves prior to entering the water so they can be aware of any potential hazards that are present.
