Bike to Work Week September 21 to 27, 2020

Bike to Work Day Tuesday, September 22, 2020

Collaboratively, the City of Harrisburg, Susquehanna Township and Bike Harrisburg have established a pop-up bike lane extending from Linglestown Road to Reilly Street. This is to encourage and honor the local commuting options in the Harrisburg area and to celebrate those who choose to bike or walk to and from their places of employment.

Bike to Work Week will feature pop up bike lanes along 6th Street. Establishing a corridor between Linglestown Road Susquehanna Township suburbs with the Capital Complex and Downtown Harrisburg.

On September 21st, the temporary lanes will be in place from Vaughn to Linglestown Road. Cones will be placed indicating the route on either side of 6th street in both directions. The roadway is already home to the Capital Area Greenbelt between Lucknow Rd and Green Street extended.

It is important to note that this will allow safe biking/walking to two of the largest employers in the area: The Commonwealth of PA and UPMC Pinnacle.

Although many folks continue to work from home, the central business district continues to attract a steady stream of commuters to and from work. There has been a huge jump in the numbers of people taking up bike riding not just for recreation or commuting, but errand running and other routine trips as well.

When an area is more inviting to bike riding and walking, it is a better place to live, to work and to play. The benefit to health, the environment and the economy are limitless. So, ride with us this week!
