HARRISBURG – A fun-filled, family-friendly, activity-packed summer event season will kick off on Saturday, June 11 in the City of Harrisburg as the Jackson Lick Pool is scheduled to reopen to the public.

The Jackson Lick Pool, located at 1201 N. 6th Street, will be open Tuesdays through Sunday, from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., throughout the summer. Hall Manor Pool will remain permanently closed due to maintenance and staffing issues.

Additional programs will be available to kids, teens, and families starting Monday, June 13.

Children ages 6 to 17 can sign up to participate in daytime programs throughout the summer. There will be group activities, sports, arts & crafts, and enrichment programs at Reservoir Park, 4th & Emerald Playground, Cloverly Playground, 7th & Radnor Park, Sunshine Park, and Wilson Park.

Programs run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. from June 13 to August 5, and are free to city residents. Families must sign up through the website Harrisburg.recdesk.com/community/home or by calling (717) 232-3017.

Field trips are also planned to City Island, the Turkey Hill Experience in Columbia, Pa., and the Refreshing Mountain Adventure Center in Stevens, Pa. The City is also holding evening programs on Monday to Thursday from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the ball field at 7th & Radnor. Those activities include enrichment programs, sports, and arts & crafts.

“The City’s Parks and Recreation Department strives to engage and educate as many of the city’s youth as possible while providing a safe environment to build both relationship and life skills,” said Parks and Recreation Director Dave Baker.

More athletically inclined city youth can take their talents to the tennis courts at Sunshine Park and John Harris. Free lessons taught by Angela Manigault will be offered for kids between 7 and 17 years old, starting June 13 and running through August 12.

Youth lessons (age 7 to 12) run daily from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., and teen lessons (age 13-17) last from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. If interested, contact [email protected] or by registering on Harrisburg.recdesk.com/community/home.
