{HARRISBURG} – Home repair assistance applications are now available for city residents in need of making necessary improvements to their household.
The application process has been extended until July 15, 2024 at 3 p.m. You can download applications by visiting the city’s dedicated Homeowner Occupied Improvement Program website.
Mayor Wanda R.D. Williams has made $5 million available for homeowner repair projects from the city’s allotment of federal American Rescue Plan money. The property must be located inside the City of Harrisburg. Funds are only available to homeowners who live in the city as their primary residence. It is for essential repairs, like roofing, electrical issues, HVAC, and plumbing.
“When my administration asked our citizens what they needed most coming out of the [COVID-19] pandemic, an overwhelming number of people said help with home repairs,” said Mayor Williams. “Many people didn’t feel comfortable having workers in their homes. Now that we are a few years past COVID, we are hoping to provide some much needed assistance to families in Harrisburg who need it most.”
A maximum of $30,000 is available per home. Federal income guidelines as set by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development must be met in order to be eligible. Families, depending on size, may not make above the combined income listed below, as set forth by the federal government.

You can also call (717) 255-3040 and ask to be transferred to the Department of Building and Housing Development. A downloadable application will be available shortly on HarrisburgPA.gov.
In July 2023, Mayor Williams and Harrisburg City Council approved the use of more than $31 million in federal funds awarded to Harrisburg by President Biden’s American Rescue Plan. As part of the funding set aside by city officials, there will be $8 million for affordable housing initiatives, $8 million for a new pool in South Harrisburg, $1.5 million in new ADA accessible playground equipment, and much more.
