Our mission is to protect children and families from dangerous lead-based paint hazards and other household hazards. The Lead Safe Program offers assistance to low and moderate- income families, as well as Rental Property Owners, in making their homes lead-safe for children. The Program has made over 800 homes lead-safe since 1995. Whether you’re a parent, caregiver, or property owner, the safety of our community’s children is of the greatest
concern. Protect them by making sure no child will be exposed to lead hazards
while at your home.

The City of Harrisburg Department of Economic Development and Building and Housing is administering a Lead Hazard Reduction Program grant (LHRP) funded by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development for qualifying residents (Rental and Homeowners) within the city limits. This four-year grant operating from April 1,2025 through March, 2029 aims to Inspect 270 home for Lead Hazards, Healthy Homes Hazards and Radon. We target moderate to low-income families with children under six. If you are eligible for the Lead Safe Program, we will provide a FREE Lead Inspection and Risk Assessment on your Rental or Privately owned property. We will also conduct a Healthy Homes inspection and Radon testing. The Healthy Homes inspection will include 14 Point inspection. The Radon test will be conducted over a minimum of 48 hrs. If the home has over a 4 pCi/l level of Radon we are required to install an Active Radon Mitigation system. Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in smokers and leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers.
