HARRISBURG — There will be something fun for friends and family, and kids of all ages, every day during the summer throughout the City of Harrisburg.

The Parks & Recreation Department was joined by Mayor Wanda Williams and additional city business leaders for a press event at the Martin Luther King Jr. City Government Center on Wednesday, June 7 to highlight the endless activities taking place in the City of Harrisburg this summer.

Harrisburg’s summer fun begins in earnest with the opening of Jackson Lick Pool, on Saturday, June 10. The pool will remain open until September 3, Tuesday-Sunday each week from 12-6 p.m. Free Aqua Zumba is making a return to Jackson Lick this summer, every Saturday from 10-11 a.m. The City is also offering free swim lessons for children ages 5 to 17 from July 11 to July 21 from 10-11 a.m., and adult swim lessons every Thursday at 6 p,m. starting June 22. Jackson Lick Pool is free daily for children 2 years old and younger; $2 for kids 3-17, and $4 for adults 18 and up. Seasonal membership rates are available at Harrisburg.recdesk.com/community/membership.

The City’s Summer Program runs from June 12-August 4, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at one of eight City of Harrisburg parks: Reservoir Park, 4th & Emerald, 7th & Radnor/Gorgas , Norwood & Holly, Wilson Park, Cloverly Heights, 15th & Vernon and Sunshine Park. There will be arts and crafts, sports, educational activities, field trips, and swimming. It is also entirely free! In addition, lunch is provided for kids each day. Among the free activities for kids this summer is the return of Art In The Park. Hosted by the Art Association of Harrisburg, children get a chance to perform all sorts of art projects every Wednesday in Reservoir Park. Starting June 7 and running through the end of July, Art In The Park meets from 6-7 p.m. for kids 5-9 years old, and 7:15-8:15 p.m. for kids 10 to 15 years old. Dress to make a mess! The city’s free tennis program makes its return to the courts at Sunshine Park and John Harris High School this summer. Starting June 12 and running through August 11, tennis will be taught by Angela Manigault on from 4-8 p.m. daily; Mondays and Tuesdays at Sunshine Park, Wednesdays-Fridays at John Harris.

Free movie nights at the Reservoir Park Bandshell return every Friday throughout the summer, starting June 30 with Disney’s Encanto. To see a full schedule of films this summer, visit https://harrisburgpa.gov/parks-and-recreation/moviesinthepark/.

In addition to Parks and Recreation events, the City of Harrisburg is proud to welcome numerous other events to its parks this summer.

  • The Harrisburg Young Professionals Italian Lake Summer Concert series runs June 25, July 30, and August 27
  • The inaugural Reservoir Park Summer Music Series will feature music festivals featuring the Harrisburg Symphony, gospel, jazz, reggae, and latin music throughout July at the Bandshell
  • Harrisburg University’s HUPresents.Live continues to bring in world-class concerts to Riverfront Park, including Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit (July 26), The Roots (July 29), The Head and the Heart (August 26), and Mt. Joy (Sept. 16).

Also, for the first time, the Harrisburg Riviera Dance Club is bringing “Silent Disco” dance parties to Kunkle Plaza in Riverfront Park. Grab a pair of noise-cancelling headphones and jam out in the park to a DJ only you and your friends can here.
