HARRISBURG – Park Harrisburg, operated by SP Plus, the organization which operates meters for more than 1,300 parking spaces in the City of Harrisburg, has announced a new, easier way to pay for parking.

You will now be able to “text to pay” for street parking. Simply text 30202, enter your zone number, and follow the ensuing prompts. You will be asked to enter your parking length of time and license plate.

People can still pay for parking by way of meters or the Park Mobile app, although the text-to-pay option was created specifically to make it easier to pay, according to Park Harrisburg Senior Manager Nancy Keim.

“What we’re seeing in the parking industry is people do not want to keep downloading apps (on their phone),” Keim said. “We wanted to provide an additional contactless payment option.”

Text-to-pay is a growing source of payment in cities across the country, Keim added, and is showing an effective way to collect payments in places like Atlanta, New Orleans, and Richmond.

Park Harrisburg staff will begin posting new signs above meters in the coming days, starting in Harrisburg’s Central Business District, and working their way out. There are a total of 168 on-street pay stations in the city.

Street meters are enforced 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday. On-street parking is free downtown from 5-7 p.m. in the downtown district area; its map can be found here: https://parkharrisburg.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/Free-Parking-Boundaries-June2018.pdf

Rates in the Central Business District are $4.00 per hour, while all parking south of the Central Business District and in Midtown run $2.00 per hour. Park Harrisburg also offers parking in 11 garages and lots throughout the city.
