Bids for plumbing and eletric work on the Broad Street Market temporary tent structure has been extended until January 4.
We put the “request for bids” notice up via PennBid on Thursday, December 7. Unfortunately, no bids were received when the initial bid period ended December 18. Because of the holidays, the City of Harrisburg’s procurement division extended the period for bids to Thursday, January 4 at 11 p.m.

So what happens now? On Tuesday, December 12, any contractors who were interested in doing electric or plumbing for the temporary market building participated in a mandatory pre-bid meeting at the market. This was their chance to see the tent, ask questions of the City and the Broad Street Market Alliance, and learn more about the scope of work being asked.
Now, the window is open for companies to submit bids for the job on PennBid, and that window will stay open until Thursday, January 4 at 11 p.m. On Friday, January 5, any bids will be unsealed on Pennbid and recorded by the City of Harrisburg Procurement and Controller’s Office. Bids are awarded based upon lowest most responsive and responsible bidder. Occasionally, the apparent low bid will need to be reviewed for responsible and responsiveness.

Dec. 7 – Posting date for the Opportunity
Dec. 12 – Pre-Bid Meeting for plumbing and electric work in temporary structure; all interested parties much attend
Dec. 13, 11 a.m. – Deadline to submit questions
Dec. 18, 11 p.m. – Deadline to submit proposals
Dec. 19 – Bids unsealed and selected
In addition, PPL has delivered electricity to the building, and the HVAC unit has been installed. As you can tell by the photos, the work by the local carpenters union, which volunteered about $40,000 in manpower, is immaculate, and we wouldn’t be where we are without them. A big thank you!
